8/23/1940 Central Atlantic CG 5138 69th day at sea

It seems U-48’s luck stayed behind on the English Coast no shipping has been sighted since 6/18 only on 7/27 did a two stack liner come into view a spread of 3 torpedoes (Atos) missed no further pursuit was possible, we went as far as Freetown and only sighted Neutral shipping. Hartmann now decided to back track and attempt a resupply from the MV THALIA however on 8/3 U-48 ran into a strong depression and her torpedo tubes were damaged effectively ending her patrol. We are making for Lorient.
