Default Trigger happy flak gunner

I am running LSH2015, in a VIIC out of Brest. In a previous patrol, as I was leaving the bunker and following the escort out through the minefield passage, I was jumped by Allied aircraft. It was an unpleasant experience, but fortunately I suffered no damage thanks to the presence of many friends, such as an AA cruiser with lots of guns and various other craft that lit up the sky like the 4th of July.

So, I thought, instead of being jumped again like that, I will man the AA gun by my flak qualified PO and give him the feuer frei order right from the start. We sailed out in the evening and I was happy to see a rotte of 109's providing top cover. Then I hear my gunner firing and cheers from the crew, all the while I am giving helm orders to make my boat harder to hit.

When the excitement died down I saw two flaming oil pools in the water, presumable from crashed planes. And then I thought, uh oh, did he do what I thought he did? I opened my log book and there I saw the entries for two Bf-109's credited to my record.

I immediately reloaded the saved game from just before leaving port and transferred my gunner to a flak battalion on the Eastern Front.

First experience I have ever seen in all my years of playing SH3 of friendly fire. I am assuming it was because the gunner could not I.D. the fighters as friendly and just went berserk.
