Default Gary Rossington, Founding Lynyrd Skynyrd Guitarist, Dies at 71

The last surviving member of legendary Rock Band, Gary Rossington of Lynyrd Skynyrd, has passed at the age of 71. The band posted a statement confirming Rossington’s death on its verified Facebook account, though it did not specify a cause of death.

Rossington was the last surviving original Lynyrd Skynyrd member and had been active in the band up until his death.

“It is with our deepest sympathy and sadness that we have to advise, that we lost our brother, friend, family member, songwriter and guitarist, Gary Rossington, today,” the statement said. “Gary is now with his Skynyrd brothers and family in heaven and playing it pretty, like he always does. Please keep Dale, Mary, Annie and the entire Rossington family in your prayers and respect the family’s privacy at this difficult time.”

Gary had many memorable parts and intro's on Lynyrd Skynyrd songs. It would be hard If not Impossible to pick a favorite. Gary was a great slide guitarist. For me, It's hard to comprehend that the members of this great band were as young as they were and yet, created such great music. The Alman Brothers Band was the same way.

Rest in peace Gary and thanks for stopping by and leaving us some great music.
