Presentation

We are completing the mod Mare Nostrum.
Its pubblication is anticipated for the first week of April.
The coordinators to take the opportunity to thank those people that collaborated to the realization of the mod.

Mare Nostrum
This is an espansion pack for the game Destroyer Command realized by Maricosom.net-Sperem development group, with the determining contribution of external collaborators.
The development team is composed of about 30 peoples, among which some collaborators coming from the European Union, Canada etc. (see the file MN Collaboratori e crediti.pdf for details)
MN is is a tactical naval simulation, placed during the 2nd World War.
This expansion pack, even though it's using the structures and the engine of DC, completely modifies and re-interpret the original simulator according to Italian models and ideas.
The missions and the campaign are set to be played from the Italian side.
All the actions develop in the period that goes from June 10th 1940 and September 8th 1943 and are set in the Mediterranean sea theater.

Structure of the espansion MN
The game as the original one, is articulated in:
-A section of thirteen historical missions, ordered in a sequential way, all historically reliable, in the limits of the potential of the game engine and the accurancy of the available information.
In these missions they are no limits set for the commander, which will be able to command from the single naval unit up to a whole fleet, within the limits of the game engine to move the units and the groups (max 16 human units).

-A section of five single missions which are intended to be a tutorial for the different situations and for the use of the available armaments.
They are surely necessary for the player that approaches the game for the first time.
-Further nine single fantasy missions, generaly rather simple.
-The stand-alone long duration mission "Hunter in the Ocean" that simulates the adventure of the race war of an Italian cruiser in the Atlantic South (fantasy).

-A small group of four multiplayer co-op missions.

-A Mediterranean Campaign on twelve missions for single player.
(see footnote)

-In the pack there around 34 units, both ships and airplanes, completly new, with new 3D models and highly detailed textures.
All the models are a faithful representation of the original units, developed on the base of detailed plans and photos.
The totality of the Italian surface units can be commanded by the player in the various game situations.
Unlike the original game, MN allows, within certain limits, the use units both big and small, generally different from the destroyers.

-There are further 26 naval and aerial units, both Italian and English, taken from those present in the basic game and repainted with fidelity and accuracy.

-There have been added six new harbors in the Mediterranean Sea, Italian, English or neutral, to reproduce in 3D the correspondents harbors at the time of the events.
Besides, there have been added eighteen smaller harbors, civilian and military, using the standard models.

-The menu panels of the game, F3-Fx has been remade and reinterpreted according to the Italian style.

-All the voices and the orders are traslated in Italian.
During the istallation it is possible to choose in alternative the Italian or the English version for all the written texts and voices.

-The original background pictures of the menus main, missions etc. have been replaced with others taken from prints and photos of the age.

-The musical themes and movies have been replaced by song and themes that fit better in the spirit of the mod.

Numerous original files will be overwritten by the files of MN.
Accordingly, after its istallation, it will not possible to replay the original game using the same installation.
It is therfore suggested to create a new, unmodded installation only devoted to Mare Nostrum and to follow precisely the prescriction of the file "MN Warnings" attached to the mod.

Notes
The Mare Nostrum Campaign, due to the inadeguate test, will be pubblished at a later stage together the related medals.
The long period of development of the mod and the by now distant date of pubblication of the original game (2002) suggested us not to delay its pubblication.
