Steve, I have tried your excellent mod without Submarine_GQ_battle_station and I've no longer got the thumping sound.
When you go to the nav. map or outside free cam you can hear a faint loop. But it's hardly noticeable and not the same thud loop that I could hear after running the game on high TC.
Have tried it out in single missions using OM with OMEGU, real clothes 2 and for me at least, seems ok.
Could possibly replace Submarine_GQ_battle_station with the same file from another sound mod and see what happens.
I agree with you regarding the ambient interior. I don't think it's that.
