As for shift states on the stick, I used that extensively in every sim I played the last 20 years. It is a full time job to map everything but the end result is as fantastic as it is confusing after each break from playing

The x-52 has the option of mapping multiple shift keys, as well as mapping 3 shift states on a 3 step rotary. The shift keys can be momentary or latched. It really is a powerful option this stick if you can handle a myriad of completely different functions to each button, slider or dial. Still, I prefer a cleaner setup with a minimum of shift states as they can be really confusing at times.
