Default Great 1946 documentary on Youtube

"Submarine Warfare" 1946 from Openflix

The first third of the 55 minute film documents the tactics used to capture the U-505! (now on display in Chicago)

The second third interviews Admiral Nogano (17:43) and two Japanese industrialists. It goes on to document the USS Trigger (SS237 Gato class) with a voiceover by her Capt. "Run Silent Run Deep" author Edward Beach. The astute observer will notice that while the whiz wheel is used, the TDC is never shown. It was probably still a secret in '46. In fact, the control room looks suspiciously cramped and may have been shot on an old S-boat.

The third part shows pilot rescues, boarding small Japanese ships or "playing pirate" as the gunner describes it, and some amazing periscope footage including Japanese deck gun crews firing at the camera.

SH-4 fans of manual targeting will enjoy the calling out of AOB and gyro angle data.
