/\There is a line in one of the U boat veteran-written books that has influenced my play in SH II, SHV and Aces of the Deep..."TDC? What TDC! Just aim the boat!" IE: Get 1000 (best distance imho!)yards or closer perpendicular 90⁰ to the target, mindful of the eel's arming distance of 300 yards; zero the scope, and setting the angle 1 degree in the direction of the vessel's heading; fire the eel as the target's bow crosses your verticle crosshair. Continue on into the convoy and, again mindful of the arming distance, rezero the scope, and fire-as-you-bear from within the convoy always being careful not to get rammed. If possible when entering the convoy past the first ship column, fire the stern tube at whatever is passing behind you, and simultaneously a front tube at a convenient inner column vessel. Wreak as much damage from within as possible before escorts respond; dive deep and reload(reloading stops if on silent runninng). Steam eels set on high work best at this tactic. Return to finish off cripples as necessary preferably with the deck gun to conserve eels then seek new convoys....Also consider attacks from dead ahead front allowing the convoy to pass over you till you are within the convoy; rise to 'scope depth and fire as you bear within the convoy. A zero'd scope "down the throat" dead-ahead shot at approx 600 yards(the enemy is closing at 8-10 knots on you at 2-4 knots submerged?) with a steam eel set on high speed on the lead escort or the middle column lead cargo vessel(mind the eel depth if passing it under the escort to strike the cargo vessel)as you close in can be attempted. Do not use more than one eel per target. Silent Otto K. will be proud of you! You can refine your advanced TDC technique as needed later on.
