I'm glad they chose the ROF engine, and wish them all the best! In some sense this is kind of expected, since 1C games have been sort of struggling with CoD, while 777 were a sort of successful offshoot of the original IL-2 development that later turned into its own thing. I just see it as a talented team coming back to work on a proper Russian flight sim.

And the choice of scenario is not unexpected. I think they probably realized that trying to market to the West is not always a smart choice. The Russian market alone is a big one, and as IL-2 itself showed, as long as the game is good, even those who weren't originally interested in Eastern Front air warfare will get it.
