HELMAND NIGHTHAWKS STEAL TORPEDO BOWL
Gunners Misfire - Again.

Week 16 in the Subsim Fantasy Football League and it's all over bar the last games this week. We'll go around the grounds from the bottom up, as we put the final placings on the 2016 Season.

In the season of giving, the Associated Subsim Writers would like to wish you and and your family a Merry Christmas, and a prosperous New Year, once you do the following:

IT'S NOT TOO LATE TO NOMINATE SUBSIM FANTASY FOOTBALL LEAGUE FOR BEST OF SUBSIM.

For the fifth place medal in Carolina, the Black Cats were hosting the Drunk Monkeys. The Black Cats have been on atrocious losing streak. At one time they lead the Surface Skimmers Division but they took a cat - nap in the last four weeks and dropped out of the Rat Race. Cats were stunned two weeks ago when the Monkeys caused one of the biggest seeding upsets in history by beating the Cats, but the Cats were going to have none of that in their 5th place rematch. Once again, the Monkeys failed to show up, but this time, the Cats would not allow opposition laxity and just scratched their way to a win. Lead by Derek Car (QB) the Cats were the first team this weekend to have their QB break a leg mid game. While potentially devastating, the Cats were playing their A team and continued to pile on the points and push the Drunk Monkeys into a post season drought. Black Cats stop the perpetual slide and recovers to beat the Drunk Monkeys 158 - 103.

The third place game was placed on the Homeland with the Australian Taipans making the short jump from England after getting eliminated a week ago. The Gunners, the epitaph of the league for the entire year, have had all their bad luck in the last two weeks. The #1 seed an Home field advantage through the play offs, the Gunners found themselves int he 3rd place game after suffering a shock loss. Surely it couldn't happen again, surely the Taipans who were unable to get a win against the Gunners all year wouldn't be able to steak this one away? You bet the Taipans did, and they did by taking vengeance of the high scoring games that lead to their 6-8 record. Gunners started Thursday night with O'dell Beckham setting the Gunners up for 32 points before Marcus Mariota (QB) even took to the field. Mariota in the second quarter became the second QB of the weekend to break a leg, and the inevitable lack of scoring left the way open for the Taipans. Taipans finally got some productivity out of their RB duo to give their team a chance to score, but it was New England (DEF) who finally showed up this year to put in am impressive score and stop the rout. Gunners lack of touchdowns by their receiving corp doomed the team to a loss, it was only going to be by how much. After owing the league all year, Gunners misfire in two post season games, losing to the Taipans 110 - 140.

The Torpedo Bowl - in Wembley England. An unlikely venue for the final game of the year after the Nighthawks shocked the league leaders the Guns of Hochuli in the first round of the play offs. Likewise, the Who Dat Nation, a former Champion of the League and also a shock winner in the first round of the play offs, made the Trans - Atlantic crossing with Rod Stewart. The Nation flew in with a similar regular season record to the Nighthawks. The Nighthawks and Nation met three times during the regular season with the Nighthawks taking two of the three meetings. The Nation were desperately wanting to level the score and add a point note by doing it int he final game of the year, the Torpedo Bowl.

Early part of the game was controversial at east, when the Nighthawks started Hunter Henry (TE) who wasn't even scheduled to play. Who Dat Nation took advantage of the zero score to have their kicker, Matt Bryant come out and 19.75 points up. With a zero scored countered, it looked like the Nation were going to overcome the spread. And then, Russell Wilson (QB) arrived. Wilson, who has been up and down all year, had a career game lifting the Nighthawks to an impressive lead. Who Dat Nation fought back across the Christmas Day games to put some points on the board and close out their scoring at 127.10 points, a 25 point lead over the Nighthawks who still had three players to appear on Monday Night. In the last five weeks, the Nighthawks running back duo of David Johnson and Ezekiel Elliott have carried the Nighthawks hope successfully. The 20 point lead just didn't look like it would be enough, and although we all held our breath for an entire half of football of Monday night, once Dez Bryant (WR) crossed for his first touchdown, the jeweler was called in to begin engraving the Torpedo Bowl Trophy. Helmand Nighthawks come from behind on Monday night to finish strong, and win the Torpedo Bowl and the Subsim Fantasy Football League, with a final score of 163 - 127.

That just about wraps up the season with the exception of two items. The first is, we'll be back tomorrow night after we finish compiling the votes for this years Most Valuable Team. But for the moment, we have to let the Helmand Nighthawks revel in their sweet victory and give them the honor of one more accolade for the season.

Each week, the Associated Subsim Writers (ASW) will nominated their Most Valuable Torpedo (MVT) of the week, the single player who proved decisive in their teams performance.

It wasn't hard to find this weeks player, we just have to look at our Torpedo Bowl final for the hero of the season. For the effort of 10 passing yards for 1 touchdown, 4 receptions for 70 yards and 2 receiving touchdowns, for a total of 29.50 points, the Associated Subsim Writers are pleased to present Wide Receiver Dez Bryant of the Helmand Nighthawks the Week Sixteen MVT.
