One of the definitions of fortune is a bounty of good things. It isn't just a fortune teller thing. It is the certainty of finding good things, your fortune. As in he earned his fortune. As in fortunate. As in his car turned out to worth a fortune.

Luck is uncertainty, both good and bad. Fortune is an unknown certainty of good things.

It may be a regional thing, but among Greek and Italian people I've often heard the statement "Good luck" be contradicted by another with "No, not good luck. GOOD FORTUNE!" usually accompanied by a pat on the back or a handshake. It means "You are capable and well prepared. Go claim your just reward."
