One suggestion, use the mission editor to open EastAsiaCampaign.mis and the assorted 42a-b-c task force missions, see if you can find the phantom task force and trace the waypoints. In many cases the paths have alternate paths with random percentages, so it's possible for any given group to suddenly change direction and take a different route.
