Hello. I know that in the RA mod, if the helo comes to a stop somewhere, it can send out pings from its dipping sonar. I believe non-RA has this functionality as well but only in a passive capacity. Regardless, it's something that kind of just happens automatically when the helos stop to hover and it's not something you can explicitly tell it do (besides telling a helo to stop and hover somewhere). I'm not familiar if the RA dipping sonar pinging can be turned off. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable of RA or this dipping feature chimes in, but I hope this has been a good start to answer your question.
