It's crazy where squirrels sometimes build their nests, in the most impossible places. On that one single thin tree right in the centre of a noisy high traffic crossing. Or directly at humans on the windowsill. Sometimes its really hair-raising!

This is just cute and lovely.

European red squirrels always have 3-6 nests in operation at the same time. In winter the walls are much thicker, up to 15cm, the temperature difference between inside and outside can be 10 degrees. The birth nest is particularly large and gets cleared after about 5-7 weeks regardless of danger situation, probably because of pollution and the risk of parasite infestation.
