Although it would be more "correct" or closer to reality if such a device is mounted on the compass, your suggestion to add a true bearing counter to the UDF of the UZO would be a quite good compromise.
(But since we already live with the compromise of a relative bearing scale inside the UDF, that's ok, I guess.
) It would make life easier.
Reading is easier than calculating, especially when things come thick and fast, right?
After all, in Wolfpack it often happens that not all stations are manned by players. Not to mention players who prefer solo.
So it would be a good extension of the information for the man on the bridge who has the overview of the situation.
If this could be implemented without too many problems, the developers should definitely consider it.
By the way - I also really like the effects of the new water on the boat, and how the boat is affected by it
