To differentiate between steam/electric is easy.
Silver and blue tips are steam... all the rest are electric.
But if you reaaaaally want copper/brass/bronze bodied torpedoes to more easily differentiate between gas and electric, I suppose I could do that... The only reason I didn't already do so was because I really like silver torpedoes. That's just my aesthetic input...
