If you play TWoS, all this doesn't apply for you. You won't have these problems.
The problem with an installement of OHII v.2.5 alone is this:
The CTD occurs when a main capital ship of a group is damaged. The game will CTD if you don't sink the ship soon enough and the escorts lose your track.
This is what happened to me above.
Adding the mod above will expressly remove this bug, and add a lot of campaign improvements to OHII - like in WoS, it will be much harder to make port raids. Also a lot of stability for the game is added due to convoy and task force composition/behavior changes (vdr1981's Readme is much more exhaustive).
Does it remove the sirene? I'm testing now, I will report back!
