Operation Barbarossa begins in the early hours.
Airfields at Utti, Malmi and Vaasa are reserved for use by Luftwaffe bombers returning from their sorties over Russia.

Operaatio Kilpapurjehdus (=op. Regatta) - the militarization of the Åland Islands - begins at 0430hrs.
23 ships are involved in transporting Infantry Regiment 14 and Light Battery 14 to the islands.
Soviet planes attack the ships and the Älskar Fortress, causing only minor damage.
16 men from Detachment Marttina are flown to White Karelia to destroy the locks of the Stalin White Sea-Baltic Canal.
The canal turns out to be too well guarded and the group abandon their mission. On their return trek they cut the Murmansk railroad.
They return on 11/7 with two men lost.
