You could do a compromise. Find so9mebody who shares a strategy game, usually that will be a hexfield cosim, where there is play-by-email possible. Molon Labe seems to do that right now in the Sub/Naval & General Games forum. Some such games have that option inbuild.
Like correspondence chess.
