tI installed the game in the program files x86 instead of the regular program files as I lost my patience trying to figure out how to make steam install it there. I know if that would be the issue? Or maybe I'm just wildly underestimating this game? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Check out THEBURBSTER's how to's etc. They were a life saver for me. I don't think there's a problem out there that he hasn't addressed.
