I have had this happen as well. Typically they are not spaced close enough during initial attack but have seen it happen. I added some tankers to my install, including Tonan Maru No 1 and 2 (19000+ tons) and a 15000 ton tanker, when loaded with fuel explosions are quite large. Watched them take out smaller merchants such as Taihosan Maru even at nice distance.
