Hood was a PRE-
Dreadnought battleship. It was the ninth ship of the eight-ship
Royal Sovereign class. The 13.5" guns carried by the class had to be housed in open barbettes, as turrets would have made them top heavy.
Hood was built to carry turrets, but to save the top-weight she had a very low freeboard fore and aft, making her a very wet ship.
