The threat of Iran having nukes I root in the risk of "proliferation" in the main - "Iran being a nuclear power" itself is just my secondary concern.

Indeed, if seeing it from just a purely strategic perspective.
If it were that strategic perspective exclusively, I would be concerned less, but the proliferation danger is much more dangerous. We have already one nuclear akistan, and it is engaged in proliferating at least knowledge and information - we should not tolerate a second Pakistan. Beside that, that Pakistan got nuclear weapons has shown to be one of the greatest political desasters since WWII which allows them to destabilise a whole region, since decades. They would not be able to afford that if not living under their nuclear "protection" umbrella (the threat to retaliate with nukes).
A nuclear armed Iran also would start a nuclear arms race in the region, with Egypt and Saudi-Arabia, probably even Syria, going next. This is inevitable, guaranteed, sealed, promised and decided.
