The rest of your post sounds good, but memory doesn't serve you correct. Downunder you may have called it VP Day; here we called it VJ (Victory Japan) Day. But it wasn't anywhere close to November 11, which commemorates the signing of the 1918 armistice ending the FIRST World War. VJ Day was August 14, 1945.
