Another way to use aft torpedoes is in an ambush position, where you are basically just camped out as the enemy passes astern of you. That way you don't have to maneuver and attack too.
Then it's just a matter of repetition so that all the small steps don't saturate the neural network. You have to change a frustrating conscious procedure into a well-honed automatic procedure. Once you can perform the individual steps without having to think about it, you'll be able to incorporate the tricky stuff.
