If you add on the money for the 'extras' to the XBox, including the subsciption to bring it close to the PS3, you will pay the same or just a bit more than the lowest model PS3.
After adding these to the XBox:
HDD
HDMI
Blu-Ray Drive
Subscription.
If I say that I'm not PS3 biased (you won't believe me), my honest feeling is that the PS3 is the best 'all in' option for the best price, the build quality is far superior to the Xbox and it's dead quiet/cool. So even if you went for a 40GB PS3 model (which has no hardware emulation for PS2) all you would have to do in the future would be to add an external HDD or upgrade the internal one.
BTW, a 40GB PS3 is selling on ebay for 285€, at worst from Amazon 352€. So they're not that expensive now.
