The only thing I am starting to fear tho is these MMO becoming money machines rather than quality products.
People have lots SERIOUS time in SWG due to the noobification and destruction of the fun factor in it. That MUST not happen again in this one.
Also I hope they go with some kind of system where they can have more than a few playable planets. Modern day engines are more than enough to simulate most SW planets.

I'd not worry about that too much. The whole MMORPG market is much more contested then regular games, due to the fact ppl have to pay a monthly fee they are very chosey where to invest. That means companies have to throw out quality products to be sucessful in the long run. Age of Conan was hyped, initialy successful, but now that it has become clear the content is not there as promised, players run away. Other MMOs, like Star Wars Galaxy had similiar problems, only the good MMOs survive.
And
Star Wars: The Old Republic is developed by the Bioware guys. They have a reputation for delivering superb quality. They also have to be innovative to attract players from other MMO's. With this kind of know how and funding in the back, they indeed have the potential to create a fantastic MMORPG. The setting alone is a seller already.
Will be interesting to watch during development.
