So, the first mission of the evening so far Written from beyond the grave!

The intrepid three (Raptor, Oberon, HunterICX) set off, with Hunter and Raptor taking the 190s against ground targets in Murmansk and Oberon in his trusty 109 taking on air targets nearby.

Oberon led the takeoff, then his 109 troupe, then Hunter and his 190s. Raptor, ever eager to return to Uncle Joe, overtook Hunter and took off from the taxi-way.

Eventually, we took to the sky and rolled onwards towards Murmansk. On the way, we heard much 'Perkele' from the Finns as they tackled and were tackled by the Russkies:

As Hunter and Raptor spotted their bandits, Oberons 109s peeled off and headed off somewhere, so Oberon followed, since their eyesight was much better than his.
Raptor set to work destroying Murmansk, taking out two factories (amended) and a train car before Murmansk destroyed him. His flaming wreckage will provide a good source of fuel for many families in the coming days!
Meanwhile, Hunter set about on a bomb run on a nearby airfield, his wingman strafed and killed a Peshka whilst Hunter killed a Russian field mouse sheltering nearby.

Oberon wandered around, trying to find his way into a dogfight, finally he spotted tracers and throttled in to find the rest of his wing attacking some P40s, whilst nearby Hunter tackled 'Peshkas from hell'
Oberon followed a smoking P40 and put it into the ground, only for his number two to claim the kill (schwein), so then he tacked onto another smoking P40 which really did not seem to want to die:

So, he closed in to short range, remembering the Dicta Boelcke:
Quote:
3. Fire only at close range and only when your opponent is properly in your sights.

Quote:
3a. Just...not that close...
With Raptor and Oberon safely buried in the gulag graveyard, Hunter headed for home, not exactly in mint condiction:

However, on his way he came across an airfield, with P40s freshly landed...what respectable Lolwaffle pilot could possibly turn down such an opportunity? Certainly not Leutnant HunterICX!

However, the Russians were not out for the count, with another of Stalins secret weapons making its appearance! As Hunter strafed a P40, its hydraulics kicked into gear. Russian gangster music blasted out across the airfield, as the P40 hopped up and down.

As his airfield killing antics ended, Hunter found his plane somewhat colder than usual due to over-adequate ventilation:

However, a safe landing was made:

Finucuan joined the intrepid trio for their second sortee which had Raptor, Oberon and Hunter in Ju88s in an air start on a bombing run on a Russian airfield, with their cover, Fin in his 109, having to start on the ground several miles away. German mission planning at its finest once again.

The group descended through the cloud layer, the lead formation almost bombing Oberon in mid air, the bombs whistling past him as he tried hard to make out the airfield buildings in front. Unable to find something decent to bomb on his first pass, he was shot at by an AA cannon, which he then selected as the target for his second pass.
Since Oberon has still not learnt how to bomb from altitude, his bombing run was conducted at a low altitude, and his bombs were set on impact detonation...

I think you can see where this is going, and why this mission report is being written whilst mission two is still in progress... :hmm:

Over to Hunter, Fin and Raptor for highlights of the second mission...
