Problem solved.

I was wondering if it is rare to come across a 'JapSub' at sea? I was returning to port, no torpedoes left, just my deck gun, when I came across a Japanese sub. Just east of Surabaya and north of Bali. So I attacked it. We battled it out with our deck guns. After about 50 explosive shells it finally gave in. Then a bunch more to actually get it to go down to the bottom. Anyways...I thought they weren't sinkable? I got credit for the kill in my captains log, so it said. Although on the exit screen it registered as a merchant.

Well, after seeing only merchants so far in my campaign (my 2nd time out), it was exciting to come across this boat! I took many great photos, but picked this one to share:
