Is it you or us that is cocooned in their national media? I am tired of being lectured about the german media by people who will never have first hand experience of any foreign news sources - which I check on daily base - because for whatever reasons they lack the opportunity to acquire language skills.
I am not here to defend the european media but foremost the BBC but also our German and French news sources are of a very high standard though admittedly somewhat leftist in the case of Germany and especially France.

Sure I could try to answer your question but I dont run for Vice President of the United States. Of course I don't disagree that the term leaves room for interpretation, but Palin didn't know what to say
at all, and she
is running for VP. She should have known that with her previous record the eyes would be on her to say something meaningful - like for instance what you just said - but not this "Charly..oh..Charly" chitchat.
Conclusion: She cannot handle situations when she didnt learn the answers by heart because she is an naive housewife with just barely above average intellect and ambition.

Honestly I dont know off the cuff about Schröder but Merkel had a lot of of that experience before she came to office (e.g. she visited G.W. Bush during her election campaign). Palins cunning remark that many previous VPs did not meet heads of state has already been proven WRONG, all of them had (well before you take me literally I guess that means after WWII).

And just in case, you do not need a Passport to travel within North America. A Drivers License is good enough to enter Canada and re-enter the US. There was simply no reason for her to have one.

I know all that, but outside the US borders your laws dont apply any more. Already answered by other posts: She can not have been very interested in travelling outside the US without a passport. What a lousy preparation for what she wants to do, I probably travelled more than her in my life, and who am I?
