How about mods and/or file changes?
Anytime something like this has happened to me it has always involved a mod or a file that I have changed or replaced.
Removing the offending mod/file has always resolved the problem for me. Bless JSGME...again.
If there is an internal Window's problem..like a missing video Codec file for example, you usually get a notice that the program has stopped working and Vista is searching for a solution. I have never had my Vista64 just go to a black screen and freeze like that. Knock on wood..
