...not discounting what others told you and in point of fact I agree 100% with them ....but too, consider how many subs were operating in the Midway area during that battle ...and never got so much as a glimpse of the action.
It has been years since I read Prange's Miracle at Midway but if I remember correctly there was one American sub that got off shots against the Kaga after it was already dead in the water (all duds) and another that at least attempted attacks on Japanese cruisers. Then there was the IJN sub that attacked the Yorktown....but that,pretty much, was about it for submarine involvement... inspite of the fact that there were reportedly quite a few boats operating on both sides in the battle area during the action peroid.
