I also was able to make a run through the channel in GWX 2.1.
IT was in very stormy weather and rough seas & to be honest I cheated a little--when entering the "entrance" & exit" of the channel I "swam" a little ahead of my sub in f12 to check for possible mines in my path. (I know --not proud of it
