Just a bit of info as far as career. During a Task Force attack I spun the scope around to see a DD headed straight for me and then it stopped and backed up, and a Carrier went between us. So they do avoid other ships. But I don't think I have ever seen a Mogami in Career, if I did I was so busy, I didn't realize it. But it did make me think when you asked, it is one ship that I never remember seeing. And I am one that likes to use the external camera to see some of the action. I don't use it to gain an advantage, usually only when I'm at 250ft and going 1/3, I might just watch the ships sink (if I hit any:rotfl  but that is one ship I NEVER remember seeing. And it is unique in it's shape, so I think I would notice.
Not much help for your question, but just an observation that in my case the Mogami has not been common in career, and I play stock 1.5 so there are lots of ships.
