I still have every Thief game installed on my computer. The ones before 3 had a smoother feeling. Undoubtedly because they were developed with first person view only and not the strange, cheat inducing, hybrid that 3 has with first and third person views. I also like the lean forward move from the older titles. Very useful to look over ledges. I don't think I've seen any other games use lean forward. Why?

Thief 3 was developed with Consoles in mind as well as PC's. That means, they dumb it down. That is probably what you are seeing.
