but keep in mind that the heading of the target is not necessairly accurate (NW doesnt guaranty its running a 315 degree course, a +-10 deviation is still NW in the map). as further away u calculate an interception as more u can be off the real position of it to a degree u dont even spot him with the help of sonar. i calculate the interception that i will be no more then 10m ahead in its projected course with flank as long as its a lonly merchant and if i cant locate it there i set course towards the reported contact submerged with medium speed. Usually with a manual sonarsearch with engines off i get a contact if the traget is running at least 6knts and be no further away then 40km (if its a convoy im often be able to spot it 80km away at perfect wheather condition using manual hydrodetection)
