I don't know about his PC in particular, but generally modern PCs can run for months or years without problems. At home I have an old Debian-based server (233 mhz P2, modded to be extra quiet), which has been running since mid-2005 with only a few short "service breaks"(cleaning, a few minutes at most). Currently the uptime is just short of 12 months. Granted it's not the same as playing SH3 nonstop.
