Search the entire file for the string "90="... you may find there is another instance of it.
Also, make sure you really are running the version of the game that you think you are.
You could, for instance, try changing a different string in the file (careful though!).
And certainly, changing "90=GAME PAUSED" into "90=TEST MESSAGE" might help confirm things.
Certainly though, for the purposes of screenshots, Jimbuna's idea will work. Make sure you have "numlock" on though. In a way, it is really the ".", not "Del" key. (KP-PERIOD, not KP_DEL)
PS: One possibility is that the game has a default for "90=", and this needs to be overwritten with something. If the programme finds "90=", it may object. So, try putting in a non-printing character (e.g. ALT+0160).
However, this last idea is just a theory.
