I'm not sure what you mean with "notepad (offscreen)". With notepad I meant that paper-like panel in the top right corner of the (attack)periscope screen (i.e. in stock SH3 or GWX). I understand that is how you got range/AOB/speed until now. If you like to use a real paper notepad on your desk to write down notes then you can also do that ofcourse. Who is stopping you. I just don't understand how you will come up with range/AOB/speed without using the notepad function. I'm not saying there are no other ways to do that, because I'm a big fan of OLC Gui/U-jagd tools, or drawing/plotting on the map myself. I am just wondering how else you are going to perform those functions with a certain amount of accuracy. Well, you can ask the watch officer for accurate range and bearing, but you'll have to gues-stimate AOB and speed if you don't resort to plotting.
Also, what do you mean with manual? The recognition book with shapes of shipmodels? The Sh3 game manual? GWX 2.1 manual? Or something you made yourself.
