Google's usability has suffered in the past two years, because too much advertizing controls the search results and, as the intorduction above mentions, too primitive metrics. The disadvantage of Microsoft's de facto monopole position for customers must not be explained. I think a healthy rival for Google would be good, like it would be good to have a second wikipedia-style online encyclopedia where not everybody can write whatever he wants and fears for PC can make it being deleted again, but must prove his professionality regarding the article's content.
