The french Famas has a tame recoil but it can make for some good laughs too. The sights are in the handle, which has quite sharp edges. Sometimes we had guys from foreign armies coming over for some sort of "exchange tour", not used to the rifle they often tended to have their eye very close to the sights for a better aim... Comes the first shot, bam, a nice little scar between the eyes for everyone to see. We would have told them, but you know, language barrier
