Bio-fuel is far from the only non-food crop and certainly not the most abundant.
More land is devoted to production of beer and other alcoholic drinks
than to bio-fuel.
And then there is game land, luxury crops, wildlife preserves, forestries etc. etc.
An then there is the effect bio-fuel has on oil prices to counter and food rise.

Think you are wrong there.

The switch from food farming to fuel farming has done a lot of damage. And it does not take a rocket scientist to figure that out. the worldbank with its assessement is not early, but late.
And biofuel is not having enough market shares to compensate for oil prices. With the exception of states like Brazil and Sweden maybe, the whole idea of biofuel saving the oil-dependant industry and technology is a nonbrainer from A to Z. the technology itself has become the problem. what is needed is a new industrial revolution, and a massive adjustement (=toning down) of our living and consummation styles. we simply take more than what the earth can reproduce, and pollute more than what the earth can clean, and live beyond our standards. THESE are the basic problems. every industrial growth and economical boost, leading to even more of what we already have in excess, and making more people in the world live by western industrial standards, is no solution to our problems, but aggrevates the existing ones.
But why worrying, since the bills must be payed by the later generations.
