Default TV Tip for Friday night, 18-07-2008

These are the two films against which Tom Cruise's "Valkyrie" will be measured (if it finally will not be delayed again and again).

FRI, 18th July 2330 local
ARD/Das Erste (first German TV channel)
"STAUFFENBERG" (2004)

Considered to be the most precise movie about the events, with excellent actors (Ulrich Tukur as Stauffenberg). 3 nominations and one award (best movie) at the German TV awards 2004.

Almost at the same time, another Staufenberg movie on the second channel.

SAT, 19th July, 0010 local
ZDF (second german TV channel)
"DER 20. JULI" (1955, black/white)

A classic amongst the several Staufenberg films, a mixture of movie and docu-play. The director was a brother of the chief of the resistence group "Red Chapel", and was a leading commander of the general resistance during the Nazi time.

These two movies were the one of the two main reasons why I wondered why Cruise thought he had to make another Stauffenberg movie - with over half a dozen already available (the other reason having been that especially a scientologist should not play the figure of a resistence fighter against totalitarianism - that makes mockery of the historic legacy).
