You lucky sod!
I'm glad to hear you're having a great time, but we don't all have that much luck;
First time I came across a large taskforce was not too long ago, during my 10th patrol. Storm reared up before I could intercept, so I couldn't see anything. I decided to stalk them using my new SJ radar, followed them over 1000nm. When the storm finally lifted, I started racing ahead, only to get jumped by a lone plan (there's a bug that screws up SD radar if you use SJ). Ordered crash dive, slipped below the surface but still got hit in the engine room. Damages and injuries were light, no hole in the sub, but one of the diesels got destroyed. Now I only had 1 screw to propel the ship.
Ordered blow ballast to repair on the surface and limit flooding, blasted the Zero and 2 of his friends that showed up later from the sky, only to see a DD from the taskforce appear on the horizon. Dove deep untill night, steamed ahead under cover of darkness and by morning I was finally in position to attack.
When the taskforce came in to view, I noticed the 2 carriers had basically no draft at all, half of their screws were spinning above water. 2 BB were sitting real low, with water almost spilling onto the deck. Some of the escorts were actually running decks submerged. :rotfl:
Fired 4 fish at closest carrier on mag trigger. 1 hit like it should, other 3 just gave small explosion, like shell, no splash. Carrier carried on like nothing had happened. Fired other 2 torps at BB, 1 missed and other hit heavy cruiser at the bow, not doing much.
Worst thing? The carrier was a Shokaku, well known for sinking easily. Al things considered, I really feel like I got royally s*****d.
Enjoy your moments of glory, they won't last forever.
