The only Cold War submarine book I've read is Edward L. Beach's "Cold is the Sea".
It is the third book in kind of a trilogy-"Run Silent, Run Deep" and "Dust on the Sea" being the first 2.
The first 2 are in WWII but the third is set during the Cold War.

"Cold is the Sea" is actually the first book I read by Beach and refers to the previous 2 books in a couple of places but not so much where I was lost without having read the first 2 books.
