Default "Second US embassy" in Berlin.

During my late schoolyears, first half of the eighties, we also had the socalled "Amerika-Haus" in Berlin.

Back then it was open to the public (though only after individual appointments) and offered events and courses as well as access to it's library. thanks to my English teacher, whose family moved to the US after WWII, with her the only one coming back to Germany (she was pretty much the best teacher I ever had and a very kind and much-loved old lady , btw.), I had a permission card for one year to go there whenever I wanted. I checked much of their library back then. I also remember one special guard they had, he often made jokes and we had a lot of laughter with him trying to practice his german and me my - at that time inferior - English. We messed up each other'S language terribly...

It has been shut down some years ago, and now is officially part of the state department's responsibilities. they talk about turning it into a monument, or something of that function.
