Welcome to Subsim.
First off, you must have just installed GWX 2.1.
The tails have been removed intentionally as they gave you too much situational awareness. However, not all is lost. If you click your mouse on the contact, it will give you heading/bearing & speed of that contact. Also, when you are within visual range of any contact, you can zoom in on the map and see the direction of travel and ship icon.

There are mods available that replaces these tails but try the game without for awhile.
