I just installed 177.39 drivers and I'll see how that goes. Oh I also lowered the factory overclock on the gpu and gpu ram by about 10mhz each. I thought I had it licked as up until today the comp had run 4 days without a lock up. Locked up while idle while I was away. Hard lock up too, no error was trapped, usally I'll at least get something in the mini dump.

I'm overclocked and the system is rock solid (other than this damn random crash of course) - prime 95 run for 12 hours overnight recently, various other mem tests have been run and I'm fairly confident hardware is not the issue.

Temps are fine idle and under load for both cpu and graphics card, heat is not the issue. Idle is a shade under 30 cel and load hits about 45-50. Volts are all good - have a very good corsair 520 HX PSU.

Looking in my system32/drivers folder, the latest nvlddmkm.sys is there, it's not an old one. I can't seem to delete the 4 or 5 hanging around in other folders though, even after uninstalling nvidia drivers and trying in safe mode.

A list of things I've tried - older/new sound + vid drivers, relax ram timings, up ram volt, kill overclock and go stock, increase cpu volt, turn off intel speedstep/C1E, turn on/off ACPI, up NB volt, reseat the ram, reseat the vid card, check all power connections, remove some fans, add some fans, uninstalled quite a few programs, turned off vid card settings + set to performance over quality...as you can see I've tried numerous things. Just about everytime I get a crash I try something different. I've thought about doing a format and reinstall but I've read too many other people doing this and not fixing the issue so I'd rather not go through that.

Some stretches I'll get 2 or 3 a day and others I can go 2 or 3 days without one.

running

Vista64 Ultimate
ASUS p5k-e with latest 1013 bios - was the first thing I updated when I started getting crashes, had a much older bios and I've gone through 1 or 2 new bios as they come out with same results
Q6600 overclocked to 3.0 ghz (333 fsb), about 1.29v
2 sticks of Mushkin 6400 ram, 2 gig each, running a 5:6 divider to stick right at 400 at 5-4-4-12 and 2N
EVGA 8800 GT factory overclocked to 650/950 - right now I dropped that some to 635/940

Things on my list to try in the near future: one stick of ram, move the ram to different slots, underclock cpu/ram/vid card, see if I can go back to a much older bios. Last but not least I'm running ultimate's dreamscene on my desktop and I have previously turned it off and still got a crash, but I think I'll try turning that off again.
