Default SP3 ~ hijack

So no-one has had trouble with SP3 boning their machine then? - AMD users have had trouble with a power management driver for cpu; apparently it's designed for intel chips to use. article

I'm not keen on how XP will now track major hardware components (like vista), so if you change out your mobo/cpu etc there's a possibility of you machine not working. LINK
I've got a full retail version of XP pro (SP2) for the express reason that I don't have to faff about with oem licensing/transfer issues or major hardware changes.

Based on what SP2 did to our pc's at work when it first came out, I'm quite tempted to leave SP3 for a little while yet.
Is it worth the risk that I'll have to mess about disabling parts of the os or run a system restore should it all go predictably wrong?
