ow, ok, I wasn't aware of that. i always used the arrow to go forward (and Shift+ arrow to go faster) and my mouse to "steer" my way to enemy ships  |

not sure if this will help but with TMO 1.4 the F12 key takes me outside then I left-click to get rid of the cursor and then use the mouse and the arrow keys to move freely around including zooming into the sub or racing across the waves to the ship in the distance. I think stock 1.4 allows you to do the same thing, regardless if you press F12 again it will reset to viewing over the sub each time.

ah yes, Sorry for my 1/2 post. I meant what tomoose said. First Press F12 and left mouse click and then what I you can use the arrow keys to roam around the ocean.
